Robin Centre Insight: Conversations about Wellbeing

March 12, 2024 /Posted byAntony Lewis / 720

In a recent discussion at the Robin Centre, members engaged in a thoughtful conversation on the topic of wellbeing.

They explored wellbeing, touching upon elements such as happiness, health, relationships, and community engagement. Participants shared perspectives on what constitutes a fulfilling life and the importance of the Robin Centre’s tailored support in fostering physical, emotional, and social wellbeing.

What does ‘wellbeing’ mean to you?
In our discussions, our members concluded that wellbeing is about being happy and healthy. The connection with health sparked a wealth of knowledge and positive feedback on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including comments on nutritious eating, ample sleep to “recharge batteries,” and engaging in activities like sports and dancing.

Conversations on happiness revolved around relationships with family and friends, emphasising the importance of having someone to talk to and care for them when needed. A significant portion of the discussion focused on how individuals express care.

Solving Problems and Making Healthy Choices
Our discussion delved into problem solving and making healthy choices, exploring the necessary conditions and services that can assist individuals in these aspects. Participants shared that they rely on their support systems, including friends, family, tutors, support workers and carers to address life challenges.

The Robin Centre has played a crucial role in empowering individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices, contributing to their physical and emotional well-being.

This, in turn, has pleased and benefited families, friends, and carers, alleviating concerns about mental health and wellbeing.

When the conversation turned to mental health, participants emphasised the importance of feeling happy. They highlighted the need for access to places to engage in preferred activities with friends.

Defining Community Wellbeing
Members identified community as the Robin Centre, gyms, leisure centres, swimming baths and shopping centres.

Members recognised that being active community members is essential for their overall well-being. Engaging in chosen activities, forming friendships, and having someone to talk to emerged as crucial factors for good physical and emotional health.

Members and their families value appropriate care and support, as well as community meeting places.  Additionally, activities such as drama, dance, sports and skills development in areas such as money management and cooking were identified as significant contributors to overall wellbeing.

Ultimately, at the Robin Centre, our primary focus is to empower our members to be the best version of themselves, recognising that wellbeing varies for everyone based on their unique circumstances.
