Member Development Plans – Tailored Individual Learning

Your day centre, from the moment you arrive

We believe that there is no one way to successful learning. And similarly, what ‘successful learning’ is to one person, might mean something completely different to someone else.

This is why we tailor our learning plans and activities to each and every member. With the help of the wider family, or other advocates of the member – plus plenty of input from the learner themselves – we make every learning plan fun, engaging, and as individual as they are.

At The Robin Centre, each member has an Individual Development Plan which identifies:

  • Their individual likes and dislikes
  • The life skills they are going to develop
  • The vocational skills they are going to develop
  • The educational courses they can undertake
  • The best way they learn and develop

Customer Feedback

We deliver activities for boosting Life and Vocational Skills
While always fun, our activities are also always purposeful. We aim to boost everyday life skills, and develop vocational skills too, amongst all of our members.
We have distinct zones for different activities
The Robin Centre has five different zones, each one providing a different kind of environment for learning and socialising.
Funding For the Robin Centre
Funding is usually available for members by contacting Middlesbrough County Council, who will liaise with us in turn.
Member’s Scrapbook
All member's receive a scrapbook, which they update daily, to record their unique journey of learning and achievement.

Taking learning step-by-step

Once the crucial first phase of your learning plan is in place, our team then follow several more key steps towards implementing and refining it. We:

  • Compile the Activities & any Practical Support the member needs to help them achieve their plan
  • Include inputs from advocates, including parents and guardians, and other members of their support network, to confirm their wishes
  • Assess how the member can build and maintain Support Networks.
  • Include Information and the Support Needs of the wider family and / or support worker
  • Listen to the member and encourage them to provide feedback at all times, which we review and amend where appropriate

Putting everything in place

Once all of the above data has been collected, only then can the Individual Development Plan be compiled.

The plan is then regularly monitored and updated by support staff. It is also reviewed once a month with the member and amended where appropriate. Then, every three months it is reviewed with the relevant family member or advocate of the member.

The Individual Development Plans all feed into The Robin Centre’s overall Activity Plan, thereby ensuring that everyone’s individual needs are met by the collective strategy.

It also ensures that we complete activities which are relevant to everyone and have a purpose – thereby achieving the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) recommendation of undertaking tasks which have a purpose.

The Individual Development Plans are fundamental to everything we do at The Robin Centre. We take things one step at a time, and of course celebrate all of our successes so that everyone sees what can be achieved!
